Alternatives to self-harm

I am a self-harmer (I haven't cut since the 24th/05/2013. I'm proud of myself.) And I have lots of ways (some quirky) to help myself.

  • Scribble on photos of people in magazines. It distracts you and makes the people ugly so you feel better about yourself.
  • Tear apart newspapers, photos or magazines. Ripping something up helps anger self-harming.
  • Go to the gym, dance or just exercise. I don't know. It helps.
  • Splatter paint. Unless you're inside. I got wrong for doing that.
  • Write down your feelings on paper then rip/burn it. I find this the most effective way.
  • Break sticks.
  • Snap a rubber band or hair band against your wrist.
  • Clap your hands until it stings.
  • Splash your face with cold water.
  • Take a hot/shower bath to calm yourself down.
  • Write or paint on yourself.
  • Take a bath with ice cubes (numbing sensation)
  • Bite into a hot pepper
  • Play a musical instrument. I do. I play violin.
  • Doodle on sheets of paper
  • Write out lyrics to your favourite song.
  • Memorize a poem with meaning.
  • Learn to swear in another language.
  • Go outside and try and guess what the clouds look like.
  • Re-organize your room.
  • Draw or paint your feelings
  • Buy a cuddly toy. I have a few. o//o Shh.
  • Wander aimlessly through a book store. Idk o-o"
  • Watch a favourite TV show or movie.
  • Eat something ridiculously sweet.
  • Think of a happy moment in your life and relive it in your head.
  • Look at things that are special to you.
  • YouTube funny videos work to cheer you up. x'3
  • Let yourself cry.
  • Go to a beach; write words in the sand and watch them wash away.
  • Meditate/yoga.
  • Hug a pillow or soft toy.
  • Crunch ice.
  • Light a candle and watch the flame.
  • Remember that you don't have to hurt yourself just because you're thinking of self-harm.
  • Make a notebook of song lyrics you can relate too.
  • Repeat to yourself, "I don't deserve to be hurt" until you believe it.
  • And check your pulse to prove you're alive.
Okay, I know, that's like so many but they all help me.

  1. I know it's hard, Malise. Be proud that you haven't cut in more in a year. But don't listen to negative people. Don't let them make you negative. It is depressing to all.

    1. Caroline? Are you actually on MSP?
Because I really like you for all your comments.
Sometimes I dread seeing new comments on my blog in case it's friends of Angela coming to hate on me again.
Thank you. For not being a total douche towards me like everyone else.
If you are on MSP, add Malise140. And give me a message saying it's you. I need you to be on my friendlist.

      Love you.
